Bicycling for the DKMS

Every year, approximately 12,000 persons in Germany fall victim to leukemia. Every other afflicted is child or an adolescent. Without treatment, leukemia can lead to death.

The method of bone marrow transplantation is a last resort in many cases. Not every cooperating potential donor has appropriate tissue, however. Hence the search for a compatible donor is more often than not like a search for a needle in the haystack. About every fourth patient dies without an appropriate donor at hand.

There is a vast overall lack of potential donors. That's why Kurt Bodewig joined a team of ardent bicyclists that has been campaigning for bone marrow transplantation awareness with its public events and calls to action since 2002.

Everyone needs to do as much as he or her is able to. With this project, Kurt Bodewig and his bicycle companions support the DKMS Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei (German Bone Marrow Donor Center).
