Honorary Capacities

Since 2003 I am Chairman of Board of the Baltic Sea Forum. This Forum has at its core the strengthening of political, economic and cultural ties around the Baltic Sea Region.

I am also a member of the Supervisory Board of the Global Panel Foundation, an international Network of high-ranking politicians, scientists and other influential persons who meet regularly for information exchange.

2007 I was elected President of the Deutsche Verkehrswacht e.V. and help among many other volunteers to encourage and fortify the idea of mobility for youngsters, students and seniors, and to make sure this mobility is consecutively made safer and better accessible.

As a member of the scientific advisory board of the Master's degree "Public Transport Management" of the University Duisburg-Essen, I'm actively involved in increasing the quality of public transport and its management in Germany.

Since my designation as Maritime Ambassador of the European Union I have advocated intensely for an integrated European maritime policy in Germany and have bespoken the needs of the maritime economy in front of the Directorate General of the European Commission.

Other chairmanships and memberships in advisory boards complete the great extent of my dedication to the European cause.
